Troubleshooting

API connection failed

What you're experiencing:

Your WooCommerce Bol.com integration cannot establish a connection to Bol.com's servers. Without this API connection, BridgeSync cannot import orders, sync inventory, or communicate with your Bol.com partner account. You may see error messages like "Connection failed," "Authentication error," "Invalid credentials," or "Could not reach Bol.com API," preventing you from being able to sell on Bol.com through your WooCommerce store.

Diagnose your API connection status (takes 2 minutes)

  1. Navigate to BridgeSync → Settings → API in your WordPress dashboard
  2. Click the "Test Connection" button to verify your Bol.com connector WooCommerce API credentials
  3. Read the result message carefully (it will be either green for success or red for failure)

→ Green "Connected successfully" message? Your API connection works correctly. If you're still having issues with syncing, the problem is elsewhere in your configuration.

→ Red error message displayed? Continue reading below to fix your connection and restore your WooCommerce to Bol.com sync.

How to fix API connection errors

Error: "Invalid credentials" or "Authentication failed"

Why this error occurs: The Client ID or Client Secret you entered in BridgeSync doesn't match the credentials stored in your Bol.com partner account. This prevents BridgeSync from authenticating with Bol.com's API, blocking all synchronization features needed to connect WooCommerce store to Bol.com.

How to retrieve and enter correct API credentials:

  1. Log into your Bol.com partner portal at partner.bol.com
  2. Click the Settings icon (gear icon in top right corner) and select "API credentials" or "API settings"
  3. Carefully select the entire Client ID string and copy it (use Ctrl+C on Windows or Cmd+C on Mac)
  4. Paste the Client ID into the corresponding field in BridgeSync → Settings → API (verify no extra spaces were copied)
  5. Repeat the same process for your Client Secret (copy the entire code, paste without extra spaces)
  6. Click "Save Settings" then immediately click "Test Connection" to verify the credentials work

Common mistakes that cause authentication failures: Accidentally copying spaces before or after the credential strings, not selecting the entire code (missing characters at the start or end), pasting Client ID into Client Secret field or vice versa, using expired credentials that need regeneration in Bol.com settings.

After successful authentication, your automatic Bol.com product sync will resume working within minutes.

Error: "Connection timed out" or "Could not reach Bol.com"

Why this error occurs: Your WordPress server cannot establish an outgoing connection to Bol.com's API servers (api.bol.com). This usually means either Bol.com's API is temporarily down, your hosting provider blocks outgoing connections, or a firewall is preventing communication between your WooCommerce store and Bol.com.

How to diagnose and fix connection timeout issues:

  1. Wait 5-10 minutes and click "Test Connection" again (temporary network issues often resolve themselves)
  2. Check Bol.com's partner platform status page at partnerstatus.bol.com to verify their API is operational
  3. If Bol.com's status is green but connection still fails, contact your hosting provider's technical support

When contacting your hosting provider, ask them:

"Can you verify that outgoing HTTPS connections to api.bol.com are allowed from my WordPress server? I need this for my WooCommerce Bol.com integration to sync orders and inventory."

Most hosting providers can whitelist api.bol.com within minutes. Once whitelisted, your WooCommerce Bol.com inventory management will sync automatically according to your schedule.

Error: "SSL certificate verification failed"

Why this error occurs: Your WordPress server cannot verify Bol.com's SSL certificate, usually because your server's SSL certificate bundle is outdated. This prevents secure communication between your store and Bol.com's API.

How to fix SSL certificate errors:

  1. Contact your hosting provider's support team
  2. Ask them to update the SSL certificate bundle on your server
  3. Request they verify outgoing HTTPS connections to api.bol.com work correctly

This is a server-level issue that only your hosting provider can resolve. Most hosts fix this within 24 hours.
