Clear cache

BridgeSync caches VAT validation results to reduce API calls and speed up repeat checkouts. Sometimes you need to clear this cache — for example, after testing or when troubleshooting validation issues.

What the cache does

When a VAT number is validated, BridgeSync stores the result for a set period (default: 24 hours). During this time:

  • The same VAT number validates instantly without calling VIES again
  • This reduces load on the EU VIES servers
  • Checkout is faster for returning B2B customers

The Dashboard shows how many entries are currently cached in the Plugin Status section (for example, “Cache Entries: 2”).

Clear the cache

  1. Go to EU VAT Checker → Dashboard
  2. Find the Cache Management section at the bottom right
  3. Click the Clear Cache button
  4. All cached validation results are deleted immediately

Change cache duration

To change how long validation results are cached:

  1. Go to EU VAT Checker → General Settings
  2. Find the API Settings section
  3. Adjust Cache Duration (in hours)
  4. Click Save General Settings
Setting Recommended for
24 hours (default) Most stores — good balance between speed and freshness
1–6 hours High-volume B2B stores where VAT status might change frequently
48–72 hours Low-volume stores where the same customers order regularly

Disable caching entirely

To validate every VAT number fresh (not recommended for production):

  1. Go to EU VAT Checker → General Settings
  2. Find Enable Cache in the API Settings section
  3. Uncheck the box
  4. Click Save General Settings

Not recommended for live stores

Disabling the cache means every VAT check calls the VIES API. This slows down checkout and may hit rate limits during busy periods. Only disable caching for testing purposes.

When to clear the cache

  • After testing with dummy VAT numbers
  • When a customer reports their valid VAT number is being rejected
  • After changing validation settings
  • When troubleshooting “VAT number invalid” errors
